How do I SEO my site?

Search engine optimizing your website isn’t hard, just time consuming.  There are many ways to SEO your site, we are going to start with the internal part of SEO.

Internal SEO

Now lets cover the internal part of SEO, site titles, meta descriptions and meta keywords.

1. Site Title – This tells search engines what is on your site/pages. You should always be sure to add your main product or categorey of items into this.

<title>Your title goes here</title>

This is found inside the <head></head> tags.

2. Meta Description – This is where you tell search engines about what your site is about, this normally gets listed in their index.

Example) Someone searches “Search Engine Optimization” on google, the pages viewed there will be a title and a short description about the site, this is the meta description. (Search Engines can be picky about it’s meta descriptions, so it may choose it’s own.)

This is found inside the <head></head> tags.

<META NAME=”Description” CONTENT=”Your description of your website”>

3. Meta Keywords – This is the keywords or phrases that you want people to search on search engines to land on your page. You should research your keywords and choose the best ones for you. You can do that with google’s keyword tool.

<META NAME=”Keywords” CONTENT=”Your page’s keywords”>

Some people say these don’t matter as much as before, don’t listen to this, these absolutely help your website dramatically. If you don’t know what you are doing here, then don’t mess with this, get more knowledge first or hire someone else to do this for you.

External SEO

External seo is bascially any way that you can get traffic and links from other websites and services. Here is a few ways to build links and traffic.

1. Submit your site to search engines, as many as you can.

Top Search Engines to Submit to:

http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx - Bing

Yahoo

2. Submit your site to directories, PR quality is what you are going for, 100 PR1 directories sometimes is less effective then 1 PR10 site.

Yahoo is the #1 paid directory for 299.99 a year.

3. Sign up for social networking sites, post information about your business.

http://twitter.com/ – Twitter

http://myspace.com/ – Myspace

http://facebook.com/ – Facebook

4. Post links to your website on related forums, as long as it’s within their rules, otherwise you will probably get the link deleted.

5. Write quaility content, try to steady post new content as much as possible.

6. Submit articles, you can submit your articles to article submission directories. You put backlinks to your site inside the article. A good way to do this is to take articles from your site and just shorten it a little bit, then post your link at the bottom as a place for them to see more information.

7. Trade links with relevant sites, this is not an easy task but rewarding.
